Couple of weeks ago I posted about my domaining experiments, and mentioned that I finally got a sale. Well the money has arrived just fine and now I can post about it.
The domain that was sold was embria dot net - no idea what it really means, I had a weird hunch when I bought it for $25. Few weeks later I sold it through Sedo.com listing and auction site for $500. Not bad for about 40 minutes of overall work and a 20x return (minus 10% commission to Sedo).
Incidentally I have another sale pending for a few hundred dollars, also almost no work. I think I am near obtaining the proof of concept I needed. I do need to do some of this for large domains I have acquired for $1000+ though, then it’ll be nice.
Ah but I have so many I just intend to keep for development some day! One of my favorites is Haay.com. Again don’t ask me why I like it, it just feels like a great web2.0 name that can be easy to market. For example a social network with such a name would be great. Digg did it and that doesn’t mean much either, so I am definitely in the camp of people who believe pronouncible 4 letter domains are of value.
