What’s Citibank good for these days? Our office is few blocks from Wall St, the financial capital of the world, and Citibank closes its branches at 4pm! I am absolutely amazed at the audacity.
I still like to do business late, and deposit things later. How can you close at 4pm? Just over that issue I was meaning to switch all my accounts to a place like HSBC, which at least keeps it open until 5 at some places, or even later on some days. It’s just such a pain to switch 3 corporations (going on 4) and a personal account.
At least Citibank pleased me recently for a change with a free loan. Well, technically it was a typo. I went to deposit $17,000 of checks. Later when I sync my data online I see $27,000 was actually deposited. Looking into it I saw that the clerk made a simple typo during the deposit. It’s been about 2 months now and Citibank has not taken out their extra $10k from me - thanks for the free loan in the meantime guys.
This reminds me years ago I had a big deposit from somewhere go into my personal account, I think it was someone’s mortgage downpayment went wrong. A few weeks later the thousands of dollars just poof, and disappeared back. Citibank didn’t call, didn’t apologize for the confusion, didn’t send a letter. What happens to other folks who aren’t as responsible and actually go and spend that accidental money?

Citibank are the biggest crooks man. If one of the big banks blows up, i will not be suprised its Citi. But then again, they will nationalize it like they did with Northern Rock in the UK. Privatize the profits, socialize the risks, thats the new model.
