Twitter

I am giving Twitter another go - here’s my Twitter page.

I finally figured out just “why” someone might want to use it. Hey I gotta keep up with the times and see where trends are going, how things are being used, etc.. If I don’t, who will :)

I am sure most of you don’t have your own Twitter account yet, and probably don’t look at another one a friend might have.

The best way I can describe Twitter so far is that it’s sort of like instant messaging meets micro-blogging. It’s mostly all public - watch what you say to others, everyone can see it.

In fact very recently I’ve started getting Twitter updates for my Google Alerts, so Google is too taking this much more seriously.  Twitter is very web 2.0 centric - RSS feeds, updates via mobile phone, web apps, IM, etc..

But what I am finding is that Twitter is used by many to keep much more personal relations than even a blog does. Some bloggers I follow get to say or share the kind of things on their tweeter page they would never do on their blog.

Reasons for that may be many… partly because it’s impersonal, partly because of the delicate nature of the post, or just that it would distract most others. Yet via Twitter this allows another type of interaction to take place. And for networking, this might be great if done and maintained right.

It would be a bit time consuming to have to logon to Twitter to make “micro posts,” but that’s when it shines as a platform (when it works). I now set it up to take updates via my mobile, and right through Trillian instant messenger app using Gtalk via Jabber plugin. So it’s only a click away, this way I can understand how people get to BS so much on it.

I know, I probably geeked out many a reader with this one. We’ll see how my tweeting goes over time. It’s definitely weird, don’t feel bad if you don’t figure out what Twitter is all about - no matter how hard you try to figure it out :)

Hm, honestly, I didn’t understand main idea of this service. Is’t like a microblogging?

Kind of is like a cross between micro-blogging, instant messenging, and IRC
