So we just returned back to New York from a couple of days in the Bay Area in California. Nick and I flew in to meet Duy and James who arrived on the truck with my stuff.

We had quite a nice time I think, I know I did. The weather, though supposedly during the heat wave, was quite perfect for us coming from New York.

No humidity means heat is kind of nice. You might like to know many or most places around there don’t even have air conditioning since usually it is not needed.

Anyway, James and I got into a discussion the other night after he read the recent post and comments where I said I am moving stuff to the Left Coast. He thought I might have been insulting, ahm, a lot of people there.

I very much disagree. Sure it’s a dig, but California does pride itself on being more liberal. I didn’t insult anyone, and did not use it or say anything derogatory - just identified it how it is. What do you think, is it offensive or definitive?

If someone lives in the Bible Belt, and actually belong to the category that defines it as such, I think they are proud to be called that. Same here, I would think many are quite proud that so much of the Western coast is more liberal. So I don’t know why it would be offensive in itself, unless people are looking for a reason to get offended.

If you live in California and are offended by this term alone in itself, please do educate me as to why. Because so far nobody could come up with how it was used as an insult on this blog.

    LOL…
Welcome to the world of Political correctness…The Liberals love being Liberal, but hate being called Liberals..Its kind of like a white guy saying whats up my “nigga”…Some blacks tend to be offended by that, even thought they say it all the time. Its their word…
Bottom line is you wont win this battle..they are looking for a reason to be offended.
Buy an Obama T Shirt and kiss you balls goodbye.;-)

Ask you frined if he is a Liberal or a Progressive. It means the same thing, they are just trying to rebrand themselves.

Welcome to the Left Coast. I’ve lived in Berkeley, the home of PC, since I was 21 and called this Coast the Left Coast always without any complaints.

Thanks for DI.FM. I’ve been a premium subscriber for a couple of years.

Re: Where to go for music in SF. I find myself at Ruby Skye or 1015 for ranked DJs. The Mighty and Mezzanine for lesser known DJs. The Treasure Island Festival has a day of “live” electronica. There are quite a few smaller clubs and events like the Love Fest parade in the fall.

I think the comment above me hits the nail on the head. As a Libertarian, I get a kick out of watching the left and right fight back and forth over labels. Oddly, though, Conservatives don’t seem to mind being called Conservatives.

Yet, a lot of Liberals go ballistic when you suggest that they may indeed be Liberals.

    Weird…
